na khalv ayaṃ mṛto 'ṇḍastha iti snehād abhāṣata
ajānan kāśyapas tasmān mārtaṇḍa iti cocyate //

"Surely this one in the egg is not dead?" Kaśyapa said out of affection, / not knowing; therefore he is called Mārtaṇḍa.
