(Looking all around) Being a stranger, I did not know the extent of his prosperity; I entered here solely relying on the appearance of the house. And now I see no fine furnishings whatsoever. Can it be that he is truly poor? Or does he keep out of sight what is not worth guarding? Or rather, this design of the house is noble. He must be a man whose fortune has been enjoyed and lost.
So, even when weak in wealth, out of regard for his birthplace,
he preserves the house even at the time of sale with affection for the ancestral home.. 12 ..
