Then enters the King, seated.
(4.18) King (reflecting):
Not by pretexts of oaths, by sweet words, by intense accommodation to her feelings,
by profound embarrassment, by falls at her feet, or by repeated words of her friends,
did the queen become reconciled, so much as when, weeping,
she herself dispelled her anger as if washing it away with her tears. (64)
(Sighing with longing): Now that the queen is appeased, the thought of Sāgarikā alone torments me. For indeed:
Her body as delicate as the core of a lotus,
melting then into my neck's embrace thick with first passion,
through the openings made by Love's instantly falling arrows
my dearest love has, I believe, entered my heart. (65)
Even Vasantaka, who was my place of solace, remains bound by the queen. Before whom, then, may I shed my tears? (He sighs.)
