nirīkṣite sahasraṃ tu, niyutaṃ tu prajalpite,
hasane lakṣam āpnoti; saṃtuṣṭaḥ koṭido nṛpaḥ. || 1 ||

At a mere glance [he gives] a thousand, but a hundred thousand at a conversation;
At a smile he receives a lakh; pleased, the king gives ten million. || 1
