12.1

āpadarthaṃ dhanaṃ rakṣed, dārān rakṣed dhanair api;
ātmānaṃ satataṃ rakṣed, dārair api dhanair api. || 1 ||

1. A man shall defend his possessions for the event of misfortune,
but shall defend his wife (if necessary) even with his possessions;
himself however he shall always defend, even with both his wife
and his possessions."
