arakṣitaṃ tiṣṭhati daivarakṣitaṃ,
surakṣitaṃ daivahataṃ vinaśyati;
jīvaty anātho 'pi vane visarjitaḥ,
kṛtaprayatno 'pi gṛhe na jīvati. || 9 ||

Unprotected, it endures if protected by destiny; / well protected, it perishes if struck by destiny; / even a helpless child abandoned in the forest survives, / while one cared for with effort in the house does not live. || 9
