mantriṇā 'pi svamanasi vicāritam: aho etat satyaṃ vā mithyā vā, kimarthaṃ brāhmaṇavadhaḥ kriyate? mahad anucitam iti śāradānandanam anyair ajñātaṃ hi svabhavanaṃ nītvā bhūgarbhe nikṣipya rājānaṃ praty āgatya bhaṇitam: bho rālan, anuṣṭhitā tavā 'jñā. rājñā sādhu kṛtam iti bhaṇitam.

The minister also considered in his own mind: 'Ah, whether this is true or false, why should the murder of a brahmin be committed? It would be a great impropriety.' So he led Śāradānanda, unknown to others, to his own house, hid him in an underground chamber, and returning to the king, said: 'O King, your command has been carried out.' The king said, 'Well done.'
