akālavṛṣṭis tv atha bhūmikampo,
nirghāta ulkāpatanaṃ tathai 'va,
ityādyaniṣṭāni tato babhūvur,
nivāraṇārthaṃ, suhṛdo vacaś ca. || 1 ||

An unseasonable rain, an earthquake, / a thunderstroke, and likewise the fall of a meteor— / these and other portents then occurred, / to dissuade him, as did the words of a friend. || 1
