lajjā-guṇaugha-jananīṃ jananīm iva svām
atyanta-śuddha-hṛdayām anuvartamānām |
tejasvinaḥ sukham asūn api santyajanati
satya-vrata-vyasanino na punaḥ pratijñām ||
Spirited men readily give up even their lives, / which follow them like their own mother—the source of a multitude of virtues like modesty, with an utterly pure heart— / but those devoted to the vow of truth never surrender their word.
