ārambha-gurvī kṣayiṇī krameṇa
laghvī purā vṛddhimatī ca paścāt |
dinasya pūrvārdha-parārdha-bhinnā
chāyeva maitrī khala-saj-janānām ||
Long at first, then gradually dwindling; / small at first, then increasing afterwards: / different like the shadow of the forenoon and the afternoon / is the friendship of the wicked and of the virtuous.
