ravi-niśākarayor graha-pīḍanaṃ
gaja-bhujaṅgamayor api bandhanam |
matimatāṃ ca vilokya daridratāṃ
vidhir aho balavān iti me matiḥ ||
Seeing the eclipse of the sun and the moon, / the captivity of both the elephant and the serpent, / and the poverty of the intelligent, / 'Fate, alas, is all-powerful'—such is my conviction.
