tāvan mahattvaṃ pāṇḍityaṃ
kulīnatvaṃ vivekitā |
yāvaj jvalati nāṅgeṣu
hataḥ pañceṣu-pāvakaḥ ||

Greatness, scholarship, noble birth,
and discernment endure only so long
as the accursed fire of the five-arrowed god
does not blaze within one's limbs.
