I have roamed through lands rough with many an impassable fortress, and gained no fruit;
abandoning fitting pride of birth and family, I have rendered fruitless service;
cast out of self-respect, I have fed in others' houses in anxious fear, like a crow;
and yet, O craving, harbinger of wicked deeds, you swell! Even now you are not satisfied!
