What use are the Vedas, the smṛtis, the readings of the Purāṇas, or extensive treatises, / and the illusions of ritual acts that yield dwelling in a hut in the village of heaven? / Leaving aside that which alone is the cosmic fire destroying the mass of worldly suffering— / the entering into the state of the Self's own bliss—all the rest is mere petty trade! // 'This is not your time; it is private now; the master is sleeping; if you remain, / he will look and get angry'—such words are spoken at their doors; / O mind, leaving them behind, go to the abode of the Lord of the universe, / free from harshness and cruel words of doorkeepers, bestowing boundless peace!
