kadā vārāṇasyām amara-taṭinī-rodhasi vasan
vasānaḥ kaupīnaṃ śirasi nidadhāno 'ñjali-puṭam |
aye gaurīnātha tripurahara śambho trinayana
prasīdetyākrośan nimiṣam iva neṣyāmi divasān ||

When, living in Vārāṇasī on the bank of the immortal river,
wearing a loincloth, placing folded hands upon my head,
crying aloud, 'O Lord of Gaurī! Destroyer of Tripura! Śambhu! Three-eyed one! Have mercy!',
shall I pass the days as if they were a mere moment?
