mahādevo devaḥ sarid api ca saiṣā sura-saridguhā
evāgāraṃ vasanam api tā eva haritaḥ |
suhṛdā kālo 'yaṃ vratm idam adainya-vratam idaṃ
kiyad vā vakṣyāmo vaṭa-viṭapa evāstu dayitā ||

Mahādeva is our god; this river too is the river of the gods;
a cave alone is our house, and the directions themselves are our clothes;
Time is our friend, and this vow is a vow free from wretchedness;
how much more shall we say? Let a banyan branch be our beloved!
