ubhayaṃ tadyadā jantoḥ kṛtaṃ na kurute guṇam
kṣīṇāyuriti saṃjñātvā na cikitsedvicakṣaṇaḥ
When neither of the two produces any benefit when applied to a creature, / knowing that his lifespan is depleted, a discerning physician should not treat him.
