puṣṇāti durbalaṃ doṣāḥ kaṣāyaḥ stambhayatyataḥ
bhūyo'bhivṛddhāste prāṇānnighnantyāśu śarīriṇaḥ
The humours nourish the weak [illness], and the astringent suppresses them from this; / further increased, they swiftly destroy the life-breaths of the embodied being.
