pathyāś cottaradigjātā laghvyo doṣatrayāpahāḥ /
pūrvadeśodbhavā nadyaḥ sadyo vātakaphāpahāḥ /
paścimāḥ pittalotsargāḥ kaphavātavināśanāḥ // 17 //

Arising in the northern region, they are wholesome, light, and dispel the three humours; / rivers originating in the eastern region immediately dispel vāta and kapha; / those flowing to the west provoke pitta and destroy kapha and vāta. // 17
