tadvat sakṛṣṇo hi bhaved guṇaiś ca vṛṣyo bhavet tarpaṇadāhahantā /
sakṣārakiṃcin madhuro rasena śoṣāpahantā vraṇaśophakartā // 2 //

Similarly the black [sugarcane] has [similar] properties, is aphrodisiac, satiating, and dispels burning sensations;
slightly sweet in taste with alkaline [notes], it destroys wasting, [yet] causes wounds and swelling. // 2
