madhuro mūlabhāvo (ge) syān madhye madhura eva ca /
agrabhāge punas tasya ikṣoḥ syāl lavaṇo laghu // 20 //

The root portion is sweet, and sweet too is the middle;
at the tip, however, this sugarcane is salty and light. // 20
