Taking thin sheets of gold resembling birch bark and thoroughly smearing them / with equal parts of euphorbia latex, asafoetida, and cinnabar triturated together into a paste, / placing them truly in a sealed container and thus baking with ten cock-pit incinerations (kukkuṭapuṭa), the gold certainly becomes equal to red ochre. / Calcined mercury bound as an iron flake, in equal part, / thrown into molten gold, will become endowed with the lustre of calx of gold.
