kṣiptaṃ tena caturdikṣu kṣārābdhau tatpṛthak pṛthak /
saumyādidiktrayasthaṃ yad gaurīśāpānna kāryakṛt //
It was thrown by him separately into the salt ocean in the four directions;
that which fell in the three directions beginning with the north, because of Gaurī's curse, produces no effect.

That which was released in the west became mercury, producer of all effects.
