gomedaḥsamarāgatvād gomedaṃ ratnamucyate /
{gomeda:: parīkṣā:: good quality}
susvacchagojalacchāyaṃ svacchaṃ snigdhaṃ samaṃ guru /
nirdalaṃ masṛṇaṃ dīptaṃ śastaṃ gomedamaṣṭadhā //

Because its colour is equal to cow's fat, the jewel is called gomeda.
Possessing the lustre of very clear cow's urine, clear, unctuous, symmetrical, heavy,
free of layers, smooth, and radiant—such is praised as the eightfold gomeda.
