tasmāśrasa iti prokto dhātutvācca varānane /
sarvadhātūnrasatyeṣaḥ tasmācca rasa īritaḥ //
Therefore it is called rasa; and because of being a mineral essence, O lovely-faced one, / [and because] it assimilates all metals, it is therefore spoken of as rasa.
