bhuṅkte nikhilalohādyānyo'sau rākṣasavaktravān /
<cāraṇā>
rasasya jaṭhare grāsakṣepaṇaṃ cāraṇā matā //

it consumes all metals and the like—this [mercury] is one having the mouth of a demon.
[Feeding]
The throwing of the morsel into the belly of mercury is considered "feeding" (cāraṇā).
