gandhakaṃ tālakaṃ caiva toyapūrṇe ghaṭe kṣipet
yadā tadbudbudākāraṃ tadā śailodakaṃ bhavet
anyathā veṣṭakaṃ devi tadagrāhyaṃ nirarthakam //

One should throw sulfur and orpiment into a jar filled with water; / when it takes the shape of bubbles, then it is mineral water; / otherwise, O Goddess, it is merely binding, unfit to be taken, and useless.
