From exercise, from walking about, and from the distraction of the mind, / his bodily tissues do not undergo moistening by day. // Spreading to the ends of the ribs and seizing the chest, vāta— // Being obstructed month after month, it enlarges the belly and produces the signs of pregnancy: nausea, drowsiness, bodily debility, pregnancy cravings, appearance of breast milk, and the like. / Again, from contact with vāyu and from the single aggravation of pitta, it gradually produces the forms of vātapitta-gulma: colic, stiffness, burning sensation, diarrhea, and so on; and in the uterus it causes intense colic, and foul smell and discharge through that vagina. / And unlike a fetus, the gulma does not flutter with limbs, but rather throbs like a lump, slowly and with pain. / Only the gulma grows, not the womb.
