And who knows how to administer treatment—such a physician attains success. / He should not accept gifts from women when their overseer has turned away.
Then, flowing from the mother’s heart through the vessels, the nutrient fluid reaches the placenta;
thence, by degrees, the navel;
and then, being digested again in the foetus’s colon by its own bodily fire, it brings about nourishment of the bodily tissues and the rest owing to an abundance of clear essence; likewise, [there is] seeped moisture through the hair follicles, and the nutrient fluid itself turns into breast milk.
A prastha of ghee prepared with that stimulates the digestive fire and overcomes kapha and vāta;
it destroys disorders of assimilation and jaundice, and promotes the conception of a male child.
If, due to ignorance, continuous lack of observation, or negligence of the mother, the child drinks that [vitiated milk], he then develops diarrhoea that resembles water, is clear, broken, undigested, foul-smelling, of varied color and pain, and frothy;
and yellowness or whiteness of urine, abdominal distension, thirst, fever, vomiting, frequent yawning, dry belching, loss of taste, dizziness, aching of the limbs, flinging of limbs, groaning, ulceration of the nose, eyes, and mouth, visual disturbances, loss of voice, and other such ailments appear in him.
And that they call milk-indigestion (kṣīrālasaka) as an acute danger.
