At that first time [of medicine administration], one who is thirsty, who has drunk cold water, who has indigestion, who is hungry, and who is emaciated should avoid medicine.

In the remaining [times, one should avoid that which is] unpalatable, unwholesome, excessively sharp, hot, strong-smelling, and given in excessive dose.

And on this there is a verse:

That, when drunk, is supreme in destroying apatantraka, dyspnea, hiccup, and heart disease.

Or one should cook one prastha of ghee with a paste of fifty Pathyā fruits, two palas of black salt, and four times as much milk; that cures apatantraka.

And sharp enemas should not be administered to him for the purpose of purification.

And he should attend to the treatment of heart disease.

The breath becomes smoke-like, and it burns intensely, as it were.
