And that enema is of three kinds: / non-unctuous enema (āsthāpana), unctuous enema (anuvāsana), and urethral or vaginal douche (uttarabasti). / Among them, the non-unctuous enema is prepared from combinations of various substances according to the doṣas, the tissues affected (dūṣya), and so forth. / Its varieties are: / mobilizing (utkleśana), purifying (saṃśodhana), pacifying (saṃśamana), scraping (lekhana), nourishing (bṛṃhaṇa), aphrodisiac (vājīkaraṇa), slimy enema (picchābasti), honey-and-oil enema (mādhutailika), and so forth. / The synonyms of mādhutailika are yāpana, yuktaratha, doṣahara, and snigdhabasti; / their nature is declared by their very names. / And here one should not let blood out of fear of aggravating vāta; / one should inhale unctuous smoke; / one should practice head enema (śirobasti); / and one should perform enema therapy.
