covered with sheets of snow, with fish and birds hidden away, / the rivers steaming and warm: such are the waters of wells at the arrival of winter. // First [he should prescribe] fasting; then a drink made from a decoction of durālabhā, amṛtā, uśīra, parpaṭaka, ghana, candana, ativiṣā, balā, kaṭvaṅga, and dhānyāka; / a gruel made of wild grains, śāli, or ṣaṣṭika rice, and food with soups of mung beans and the like; / but once the āma is conquered, unctuous and cold [substances] as before. // Lying down, he breathes with difficulty; seated, he finds relief. // In a droṇa of water, one should cook rāsnā, the ten roots, and śatāvarī, / measuring one pala [each], along with two kuḍavas of horse gram, jujube, and barley. // Mixed with honey, with oil, and with urine, this evacuating enema conquers [it], scraping and stimulating the digestive fire. // With śṛgālavinnā and mustā made into a paste, one should cook ghee; / mixed with the juice of the ten roots and milk, it is supreme in overcoming grahas.
