Rainwater that has fallen into the sea should not be drunk, except in the month of Āśvayuja; / or water that has fallen from excavations, washed rock faces, cloths, and the like.
Of those, four and eight are termed vital spots.
Two in the kṛkāṭikā, two in the vidhura—thus sixteen should not be touched with a sharp instrument.
Sixteen in the jaws; of these, two are connected to the joints.
Sixteen in the tongue.
Of these, two beneath perceive tastes, and two initiate speech; that makes four.
Twenty-four in the nose.
Of these, two perceive smells, and of these very ones, one is in the palate; that makes three.
Fifty-six in the eyes.
In them, two each actuate opening and closing.
And two in the outer corners; that makes six.
Those extending from the nose and eyes to the forehead are sixty.
Of these, four follow the hairline, two in the brows, and one in the sthapanī; that makes seven.
Sixteen in the ears.
Of these, two convey sound.
And the same in the temples; of these, two are situated in the temporal joints.
Twelve in the crown of the head.
Of these, two in the utkṣepa, one each in the cranial sutures, and one in the adhipati; thus eight should be avoided with the knife.
Likewise, minute, tortuous, crowded, and knotted ones, as well as those located at joints, are unfit for surgical operation.
Like an elephant without a goad, the stupid person will refrain from doing nothing.
When the morbid accumulation accompanied by kapha is expelled, one attains comfort.
Therefore, the intake of a hot [liquid] alone is recommended in that condition; / along with fruit suppositories and sudations, and purgation after determining the proper time,
or with white mustard, sal tree resin, kuṣṭha, asafoetida, and guggulu.
