Among awned grains, the red [variety] is the best; it relieves thirst and the three doṣas;
next to it is mahān, and after that kalama, and then the others.
Two finger-breadths below the two breasts, on both sides, are the Stanamūlas; [an injury] to them causes death with the thorax filled with kapha.
Two finger-breadths above the two nipples, on both sides, are the Stanarohitas;
[an injury] to them causes death with the thorax filled with blood.
On both sides of the chest are the two vessels carrying vāta, the Apastambhas; [an injury] to them causes death from cough and dyspnea due to the thorax being filled with blood.
Below the summits of the shoulders, on the upper parts of the flanks, are the Apalāpas; [an injury] to them causes death from blood turning into pus.
When that [apāna vāta] causes an accumulation of waste products; and further, from adopting squatting, irregular, or hard seating, from riding in shaking carriages, on camels, and the like, from excessive sexual intercourse, from injury to the rectum caused by improper insertion of an enema nozzle or the like, from frequent contact with cold water, from friction caused by cloth, clods of earth, grass, and the like, from continuous excessive straining, from suppressing or forcibly initiating the urges of flatus, urine, and feces, and in women from abortion, compression of the fetus, or difficult delivery; provoked by such causes, the downward apāna vāta, reaching that accumulated waste that has descended, deposits it in the anal folds.
Then, as they become engorged with fluid, hemorrhoids develop.
And whatever is light, has not lost its potency, is easily digested, and produces strength;
And with those very two oils, one should administer an unctuous enema in the evening after food has been eaten.
