28.32
When the digestive fire is blazing, one should feed [the patient] light food in the evening.
Indeed, on the second day, one should not [administer food] if the unctuous substance has not returned.
And one should not administer an unctuous enema to him.
The maximum time for its return is three yāmas.
Beyond that, if it does not return, one should wait for a day and a night.
If it still does not return even then, one should purify [him] with fruit suppositories or with sharp enemas consisting mostly of salt and fermented rice-water.
And one should look to the section on the successful treatment of complications of unctuous substances.
If it does not return due to excessive dryness, but does not cause complications such as dullness, it is nevertheless to be disregarded.
If, however, it returns quickly without waste matter, as pure unctuous substance, one should administer another unctuous enema again.
For staying [inside] does not accomplish its work [if expelled immediately].
And when he has rested comfortably, having had emesis, purgation, or a non-unctuous enema performed, one should generally have him drink a decoction of dry ginger and coriander, or another [kind of] warm water, to digest the remainder of the unctuous substance and to pacify vāta and kapha.
If they do not subside in this manner, one should perform emesis, fumigation, and purgation of the head.
