akalpayan na yajñāṅgaṃ purā dakṣastriśūline | tasmāt praṇāśayāmāsa yajñaṃ dakṣasya śaṅkaraḥ ||

In ancient times Dakṣa did not allot a share of the sacrifice to the wielder of the trident; / therefore Śaṅkara destroyed Dakṣa's sacrifice.
