Here, authoritative tradition is first of all the Veda; and whatever other doctrine is not contrary to the meaning of the Veda, composed by investigators, approved by the cultured, and directed toward the welfare of the world, that too is authoritative tradition. From authoritative tradition it is learned that generosity, austerity, sacrifice, truth, non-violence, and celibacy lead to prosperity and the highest good.
