na mūḍho labhate saṃjñāṃ tāvadyāvanna pīḍyate /
pīḍitastu matiṃ paścāt kurute vyādhinigrahe //
The confused man does not gain awareness until he is afflicted;
only when afflicted does he subsequently direct his mind toward checking the disease.
