vyaktaḥ śuṣkasya cādau ca raso dravyasya lakṣyate /
viparyayeṇānuraso rso nāsti hi saptamaḥ //
The taste is perceived clearly in a dry substance and at the beginning; / conversely, the after-taste [is perceived at the end]; for there is no seventh taste.
