raso nipāte dravyāṇāṃ vipākaḥ karmaniṣṭhayā /
vīryaṃ yāvadadhīvāsānnipātāccopalabhyate //
Taste is perceived upon contact with substances, post-digestive effect at the conclusion of action, / and potency is perceived throughout the period of residence [in the body] as well as upon contact.
