saṃvejayedyo rasānāṃ nipāte tudatīva ca /
vidahanmukhanāsākṣi saṃsrāvī sa kaṭuḥ smṛtaḥ //
That which agitates the tongue upon contact, seems to prick it, / burns the mouth, nose, and eyes, and causes discharge from them, is considered pungent.
