vedaṃ copadiśyāyurvācyaṃ tatrāyuścetanānuvṛttirjīvitamanubandho dhāri cetyeko 'arthaḥ //

And having indicated the Veda, lifespan must be defined. Here, lifespan, the continuation of consciousness, living, succession, and the sustaining [principle] are one and the same entity.
