tasmācchāstre 'arthavijñāne pravṛttau karmadarśane /
bhiṣak catuṣṭaye yuktaḥ prāṇābhisara ucyate //
Therefore, a physician endowed with the fourfold [qualifications]—scriptural knowledge, understanding of the meaning, practical application, and witnessed experience— / is called a rescuer of vital breaths.
