udakaṃ tu khalvatyarthavikṛtagandhavarṇarasasparśaṃ kledabahulamapakrāntajalacaravihaṅgam-*upakṣīṇajaleśayamaprītikaramapagataguṇaṃ vidyāt;

Water, however, one should know to be of impaired quality when it has excessively altered odor, color, taste, and touch, is full of slimy moisture, has its water-dwelling birds departed and its aquatic animals depleted, and is unpleasant;
