yathā---ekasya pakṣaḥ punarbhavo 'astīti, nāstityaparasya; tau ca svasvapakṣahetubhiḥ svasvapakṣaṃ sthāpayataḥ, parapakṣamudbhāvayataḥ, eṣa jalpaḥ/

For instance: the thesis of one is 'Rebirth exists,' and of the other, 'It does not exist.' Both establish their own respective theses with reasons for their own sides and refute the other's thesis—this is disputation.
