atha vākyadoṣaḥ---vākyadoṣo nāma yathā khalvasminnartha nyūnam, anarthakam, apārhtakaṃ, viruddhaṃ ceti; etāni hyantareṇa na prakṛto 'arhtaḥ praṇaśyet/

Now, defect of statement: defect of statement in this subject is: the deficient, the superfluous, the meaningless, the incoherent, and the contradictory; for without these, the subject under discussion would not be ruined.
