athādhikam---adhikaṃ nāma yannyanaviparītaṃ, yadvā++āyurvede bhāṣyamāṇe bārhaspatyamauśanasamanyadvā yatkiṃcidapratisaṃbaddhārthamucyate, yadvā saṃbaddhārthamapi dvirabhidhīyate tat punaruktadoṣatvādadhikaṃ; tacca punaruktaṃ dvividham---arthapunaruktaṃ, śabdapunaruktaṃ ca; tatrārthapunaruktaṃ yathā---bheṣajamauṣadhaṃ sādhanamiti, śabdapunaruktaṃ punarbheṣajaṃ bheṣajamiti/
Now, the superfluous: the superfluous is the opposite of the deficient; or, while Āyurveda is being discussed, if something from the treatise of Bṛhaspati or of Uśanas, or anything else unconnected in meaning, is uttered; or if even a connected meaning is stated twice, that is superfluous because of the defect of repetition. And that repetition is of two kinds: repetition of meaning and repetition of words. Among them, repetition of meaning is like: 'bheṣaja, auṣadha, sādhana' [all meaning medicine]; whereas repetition of words is like: 'bheṣaja, bheṣaja'.
