Here, this is the rule for study: in good health, having set aside time, rising early in the morning or at the break of dawn, having attended to the calls of nature and performed ablutions with water, having bowed to the deities, ṛṣis, cows, brahmins, elders, seniors, siddhas, and teachers, seated comfortably in a level, clean place, repeating the aphorism with speech preceded by mental focus, he should recite it again and again, understanding and thoroughly penetrating the true nature of the subject matter, for the purpose of removing his own faults and establishing the faults of opponents; thus at midday, in the afternoon, and at night, he should practice his study constantly without slacking.
