asti nanu vo glāniraprabhāvatvaṃa vaisvaryaṃ vaivarṇyaṃ ca grāmyavāsakṛtamasukhamasukhānubandhaṃ ca; grāmyo hi vāso mūlamaśastānāṃ, tat kṛtaḥ puṇyakṛdbhiranugrahaḥ prajānāṃ, svaśarīramavekṣituṃ &kālaḥ kālaścāyamāyurvedopadeśasya brahmarṣīṇām; ātmanaḥ prajānāṃ cānugrahārthamāyurvedamaśvinau mahyaṃ prāyacchatāṃ, prajāpatiraśvibhyāṃ, prajāpatye brahmā, prajānāmalpamāyurjarāvyādhibahulamasukhamasukhānubandhamalpatvādalpatapodamaniyamadānādhyayanasaṃcayaṃ matvā puṇyatamamāyuḥprakarṣakaraṃ jarāvyādhipraśamanamūrjaskaramamṛtaṃ śivaṃ śaraṇyamudāraṃ bhavanto mattaḥ śrotumarhatāthopadhārayituṃ prakāśayituṃ ca prajānugrahārthamārṣaṃ brahma ca prati maitrīṃ kāruṇyamātmanaścānuttamaṃ puṇyamudāraṃ brāhmamakṣayaṃ karmeti//

Do you not have exhaustion, loss of radiance, loss of voice, loss of complexion, and unhappiness with unfortunate consequences caused by living in villages? For living in villages is the root of inauspicious things; hence, grace has been extended to creatures by you performers of merit, [and now] it is time to look after your own bodies, and this is the time for the teaching of Āyurveda to the brahmarṣis. For the sake of favoring myself and creatures, the Aśvins gave Āyurveda to me, Prajāpati to the Aśvins, and Brahmā to Prajāpati. Considering that creatures have short lifespans, full of old age and disease, unhappy, with unfortunate consequences, having little accumulation of austerity, self-restraint, rules, charitable giving, and Vedic study on account of their shortness [of life]—you deserve to hear from me, then retain and make known, this most holy, life-extending, old age- and disease-allaying, invigorating, immortal, auspicious, protective, noble [knowledge], out of grace for creatures, out of friendliness and compassion toward the knowledge of the ṛṣis and the Veda, and as an unsurpassable, holy, noble, imperishable, sacred act of your own."
