śānte 'agnau mriyate, yukte ciraṃ jīvatyanāmayaḥ/
rogī syādvikṛte, mūlamagnistasmānnirucyate//
When the fire is extinguished, one dies; when it is properly functioning, one lives long and free from disease; / when it is abnormal, one becomes sick. Therefore, the fire is declared to be the root.
